The next page in the Colin Kaepernick saga has taken a twist, that we all knew was inevitable. I’ll go out on a limb and say 99.4% of police officers go to work with the best of intentions and an underlying will to get back home after their shift is complete. Police have been insulted from the president down and it is all emotion driven by a political agenda. That being said the police are doing what they can do, lawfully I might add.
Members of the Santa Clara Police Officer’s Association have threatened to stop staffing 49ers games if Colin Kaepernick continues his national anthem protest. Officers say they are offended at Kaepernick’s comments about police brutality and that if the organization does not stop him ‘it could result in police officers choosing not to work at your facilities. ‘The move comes after Kaepernick spoke out about his protest following the Niners game against the Chargers on Thursday, insisting he is ‘not anti-American’ and will donate his first $1million earned this year to charity.
I’m not blind to this issue, but putting the cart before the horse is not the way anything can be accomplished. Anyone thinking clearly in the position of a police officer in a situation of him or me will make the choice of self preservation. How is it though a black culture of crime should be rewarded with the police officer surrendering his life for the criminal’s(there are the exceptions, that are always investigated).To think common sense could readily change the course of all these actions, but I guess I am hoping for to much.
