The marquee outside RJT Equipment, a business that buys, sells and rents construction equipment in Lufkin, Texas, has been turning heads lately. Not for clever advertising, but for the business’s taste in Bible quotes.
The sign reads, in all capital letters, “Homosexuality is an abomination to God. Leviticus 18:22. He will punish the U.S.A for it.”
Owner Kirk Johnson told KTRE he changed the sign in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage throughout the U.S.
“You can’t miss it,” Johnson said of the sign. “I felt like it was wrong, and I needed to say what I thought. I did.”
He added: “I just felt like the whole thing was shoved down our throats.”
Johnson’s pastor, Ronnie Frankens of the Greater Love Tabernacle church, said he agrees with the message. “I think we need to have more people that are forthright and will stand up and be counted,” Frankens said. He also added that the legalization of same-sex marriage marked “a sad day for America.”
Frankens said the message was meant with love. “It’s not a hate crime to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s too clear,” Frankens said. “America will be punished for what we are allowing and what we won’t stand against.”
Johnson said he hasn’t received any negative comments about the sign.
