In the world of women’s gymnastics, there is Simone Biles and then there is everybody else.  Today she won the all around gold medal by better than 2 points over her teammate Aly Raisman.  Prior to the Olympics, Biles won the last three world titles and the last four US titles.  Before the competition even Raisman who was rated second best (She did win the silver) said that Biles would win because she always wins.  The secret to her success is that she adds very difficult moves and rarely ever makes a mistake.

Biles was trailing Aliya Mustafina of Russia by a minuscule .034 points.  One of those events is uneven bars, which is the one area she does not excel in.  She came back with two powerful performances and took the gold.  Raisman rallied from fourth for the silver medal.  That was Biles’ second gold medal and she could win up to 3 more tonight as she competes in the floor exercise, balance beam and vault.

Biles is the fourth US women’s gymnast to win the overall title in the Olympics.  The others were Carly Patterson (2004), Nastia Liukin (2008) and Gabby Douglas (2012).

Biles announced before the Olympics that she would be going pro after she’s finished in Brazil.
