The American flag is a symbol of our freedom as a country. The freedom that came from thousands of men and woman sacrificing their lives for Americans is represented by this flag. Displays of the American flag and military flyovers before the start of games are quite common, and there’s no political element. It’s simply a patriotic symbol and a nod to the men and women who wear the uniform, ready to fight when called upon to do so.
However, one sports announcer views it differently. Craig Calcattera, an NBC sports announcer, has decided to make waves by sharing a strange view on his Twitter page.
Calcattera wrote on his Twitter page: “Will you keep politics out of sports, please. We like sports to be politics-free,” followed by a gigantic image of an American flag.

His tweet garnered a lot of criticism. He was challenged by a twitter follower” How is the flag political?…”
Calcatterra responded, “Maybe a flag, in and of itself isn’t always political. A two-acre flag with a military flyover is saying something very specific, however.”
However, some critics say that a gigantic flag and a military flyover don’t make it a political statement.
Because of Calcattera’s ludicrous tweet, which was accompanied by a gigantic image of an American flag, garnered a lot of criticism, the sports announcer was forced to explain himself.
“I’d say 80% of the hundreds of responses I’ve gotten this morning have been some variation of this,” he wrote about someone who asked why the flag is political.
“And the answer, of course, is that the flag is not inherently political. But it has been used politically in countless ways for 200+ years. Likewise, if you do not see how the flag/patriotism has exploded in sports since 9/11, you must’ve been born on 9/12.”
Due to his tweet, many people have asked Calcattera to move to North Korea.
