Spying Not Only For The NSA: St. Louis Cardinals Under Investigation For Cyber Hacking/Spying
Yep, you read that, correctly. The St. Louis Cardinal baseball franchise is under investigation by the FBI for hacking into the computer systems of the Houston Astros, their National Division rivals from 1994 to 2012.
They are accused of acquiring private information regarding statistics, trade info, and more.
Justice Department prosecutors said the FBI uncovered evidence that unidentified Cardinals employees hacked into the internal servers of the Houston Astros to take information about player personnel, including discussions about trades, statistics, and scouting reports.
The Cardinals are considered one of the best teams in baseball, and the illegal hacking is believed to have been done by front office employees.
Law enforcement officials believe the hacking was executed by vengeful front-office employees for the Cardinals hoping to wreak havoc on the work of Jeff Luhnow, the Astros’ general manager who had been a successful and polarizing executive with the Cardinals until 2011.
