A teacher in Queens, New York was fired for multiple offences, including having oral sex with a male student, grabbing the breasts and crotch of a female student, kicking a male student in the testicles and rude and lewd language has found a new job after just one week of looking. Jinwoo Seong, a 36-year-old who taught at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens was on paid leave for nine months before the school finally decided he had to go.
The problem was that since he was never arrested and charged with a crime his previous employer was not allowed to give his history at the school without being sued. So that when Seong applied at Don Bosco in Paterson, New Jersey, there was nothing that Don Bosco could see that would prevent them from hiring him. Since his New York teaching permit was not revoked and New York and New Jersey recognized each other’s credentials, there seemed to be no problem.
Seong claims he is not guilty of the accusations against him. He claims that they were out for revenge because he had called the parents to report on their child’s behavior. He also claims he did nothing wrong because he was told it was being handled at the school. He lied in his interview with the school and instead of telling them about the accusations, he said that he was looking for a change in scenery.
Captain James Smith, the Paterson school district’s security director has had him removed from his classroom. They did not say what his status is or whether he is being paid during the time he is gone from class. Smith said that the school will investigate and make the final decision on the punishment for a teacher being fired for cause.
