Thief Caught Stealing From Blind Woman Says, “I’m Not A Good Thief”

HA! Ya Think?! This is another great Darwin award winner who doesn’t know enough to not get out of bed in the morning.

Fox2Now: An employee at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is accused of stealing several hundred dollars from a blind passenger before boarding a flight earlier this year.

According to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred January 3. The victim was traveling home to Washington D.C. from St. Louis.

An airport employee, identified as 23-year-old Justin Gillespie, was helping the victim get through security and was escorting her to her gate via a wheelchair. The victim asked to use the restroom first and the employee wheeled her to the restroom and agreed to wait outside for her.

The victim left her bag on the wheelchair. The bag contained $800 in cash.

Prosecutors said when the victim got home to Washington D.C. she realized her money had been stolen.

Gillespie was arrested and questioned by detectives about the incident. Gillespie said he remembered helping the woman but could not recall taking her to the restroom.

Airport surveillance video showed Gillespie reaching into the victim’s bag while she was in the restroom, prosecutors said. While an officer was filling out a booking sheet for the case, Gillespie allegedly said “I’m not a good thief.”

Gillespie was charged with one felony count of stealing over $500.
