A young girl is in critical condition after she was shot by her father while he was playing with his children.

Justin Ryan Jones of Austin, Texas, was playing with his children when he decided to show them his gun.

The 34-year-old father was caring for his 9-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 7 and 6, when he playfully pretended to be shooting at the kids.

Sadly, the gun went off, hitting the girl in the left side of the chest. The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Office said that the girl is expected to recover.

Jones was charged with injury to a child, and his bail was set at $25,000.

The incident is also under investigation by Children’s Protective Services. The children are in the custody their grandparents.
