The more that comes out about the judge and lawyers in the Trump University case the more it looks like Trump was more than justified in criticizing the judge. Judge Curiel’s organization, California La Raza Lawyers Association, was founded by Mario Obledo, who said that all whites in California needed to go back to Europe and Mexicans should rule California.
Mario Obledo was a co-founder of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) and the La Raza Lawyers of California bar association, and he formerly served as California’s Secretary of Health and Welfare. We don’t know exactly when and where he first made his controversial statement about California’s becoming a “Hispanic state,” but he has confirmed he said it at least twice: during an appearance on Ray Briem’s talk radio show in May or June of 1998, and again on Tom Leykis’ talk radio show:
Obledo: “We’re going to take over all the political institutions of California. In five years the Hispanics are going to be the majority population of this state.”
Caller: “You also made the statement that California is going to become a Hispanic state, and if anyone doesn’t like it, they should leave. Did you say that?”
Obledo: “I did. They ought to go back to Europe.”
When someone put up a sign at the California border saying, “Illegal Immigration State,” he threatened to burn it down personally.
He ignited an explosive response in 1998 when he said in a radio interview that Hispanics were on the way to taking over all of California’s political institutions. He suggested that people who did not like it go back to Europe.
Curiel’s La Raza Legal Group is also tied to The Hispanic National Bar Association, which is advocating for the boycott of businesses owned by Trump. Here are some excerpts from them:
“By his recent derogatory remarks about Mexican immigrants, Donald Trump’s disrespect of such a large segment of the population of America is not only unbelievable but outright wrong. His comment that Mexico only sends rapists and criminals to the United States reveals a racist nature that cannot and will not go unnoticed by the Hispanic National Bar Association nor the Latino community.”
The HNBA calls for a boycott of all of Trump business ventures, including golf courses, hotels, and restaurants. We salute NBC/Universal, Univision and Macy’s for ending their association with Trump, and we join them in standing up against bigotry and racist rhetoric. Other businesses and corporations should follow the lead of NBC/Universal, Univision and Macy’s and take similar actions against Donald Trump’s business interests. We can and will make a difference.
Yet, liberals think it’s fair for this man to make decisions against Donald Trump. I will agree with them the day they agree to allow Patricia Smith, mother of dead Benghazi hero Sean Smith to be the judge against Hillary Clinton’s violations of the espionage act.
