With this Tweet Hillary Clinton tried to Shut Down the Vaccine Debate

While the crowded GOP presidential field rushed to weigh in on the increasingly loud debate over vaccinations in this country, Hillary Clinton waited until late Monday night to issue her thoughts on the matter, in less than 140 characters:

The science is clear: The earth is round, the sky is blue, and #vaccineswork. Let’s protect all our kids. #GrandmothersKnowBest

The presumptive Democratic nominee for 2016 attempted to rise above the fray, using her role as a grandmother to declare unequivocally that “#vaccineswork.”

Clinton’s comments followed a day in which Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) said parents should have some “choice” when it comes to vaccinating their children against preventable diseases like measles and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said most vaccines should be “voluntary.”

Dr. Ben Carson, who also happens to be a pediatric neurosurgeon, was the only potential Republican candidate to come out strongly in favor of vaccines, saying, “Certain communicable diseases have been largely eradicated by immunization policies in this country and we should not allow those diseases to return by foregoing safe immunization programs, for philosophical, religious or other reasons when we have the means to eradicate them.”
