How can the most successful prosperous nation that ever existed on the face of the earth suffer so much from depression? It seems to make no sense on the surface, but when you dig down just a bit you can find some subtle answers. An abundance of psychiatrists writing prescriptions for a population thinking they are in distress. A society based on achievement puts a bit of pressure on a person leading to said depression.
In terms of quality years of life lost due to disability or death – a widely adopted public health metric that measures the overall burden of disease – the U.S. ranked third for unipolar depressive disorders, just after India and China.India, China and the U.S. are also the countries most affected by anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, according to WHO.About one in five adults in the U.S. experiences some form of mental illness each year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, but only 41 percent of those affected received mental health care or services in the past year.
The list of the bottom 5 countries as reported in the survey has the most giving and prosperous country listed. I could only wonder if the 24/7 news cycle indirectly has influenced this survey. Waking at 7am and watching death, political mayhem, earth destroying news weighs heavily on some people, and they medicate to get through another day of sadness. It seems almost like a plan has been put into place to benefit a government that wishes to control and a ever expanding pharmaceutical industry getting wealthier by the day in their pursuit of riches. What do you think?
