Riots broke out last night in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina last night after a police officer fatally shot an armed man in the parking lot of a housing complex. Police were there to serve an arrest warrant, when they saw Keith Lamont Scott get out of his car, get back inside and then emerge with a gun in his hand. In the ensuing moments Scott was shot and killed. The gun was recovered next to his body. Scott was not the person the police were there to arrest.
That brought out the BLM protesters, carrying signs that said “Black Lives Matter” as they pelted the police with bottles and rocks. One officer was hit in the face by a rock and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The crowd kept chanting, “No justice, No Peace.” Evidently, BLM thugs believe police shouldn’t shoot a man carrying a gun.
As the night went on, the BLM protesters got more violent and they set fire to Interstate 85 and blocked traffic until police were finally able to move them out of the way.
Statements from protesters:
“Something has to be done … there was a terrorist in New Jersey, New York. He was taken alive.”
This isn’t TV. The police shoot and sometimes the shot is fatal and sometimes it’s not. Not many police officers are capable of placing a bullet in a silver dollar sized target.
“They said they want to question him. So because you wanted to question him, does his life mean more than our black men across the nation? It doesn’t make any sense.”
I guaranty you that police were shooting to kill the terrorist, they just weren’t that accurate.
“When will our lives truly matter? A black father is dead. There are children tonight who will never see their father again.”
“It clearly appears as if our lives don’t matter. We need to change policies. We need to change procedure. We need to hold police accountable. It’s a modern day lynching. Charlotte is not a good place right now, we’re in the throes of his problem.”
I have a radical idea and it’s just crazy enough that it might just work. Don’t confront police with a gun in your hand and obey their instructions. We got nothing to lose by trying it.
In all, 12 officers were hurt during the melee, fortunately none of them life threatening.
