Hundreds of people were gathered on the banks of the Qiantang River in China’s Zhejiang province when the monster wave struck, reports the People’s Daily Online. 

Footage shows tourists suddenly realizing that the wave is too big and running for cover.  

Footage from the incident shows tourists watching as the bore starts to appear. 

Suddenly they realize the waves are too big with some running for cover. 

Others remain oblivious as the wave crashes against the barrier and completely coats the remaining tourists, almost sweeping them away. 

A motorbike can be seen being swept along the path by the force of the tide.
