Mary Kay Henry, SEIU president was addressing the group’s convention, Richmond, Virginia, when several SEIU organizers disrupted her speech to demand $15 an hour, which is what the uneducated want from fast food restaurants and other lower wage employers.
However, not all of the unionists agreed with the $15/hr. minimum wage and some scuffles broke out, including one member tearing a sign out of another member’s hands. One of the unionists who is against the $15 hour minimum wage said, “Are you guys serious right now? Are you gonna do this right now?”
She then launched into an outburst against the other organizers who appear to make more than she does.
“Do you know what it’s like to get paid $500 every two weeks? Do you guys know what that is?” she shouted as they continued to vocalize. Then she yelled, “You guys get paid enough!”
Naturally, Henry posted on the SEIU Facebook page using the race card and the slavery issue and said, “Today, we marched an avenue that is lined with statues of Confederate leaders who attempted to maintain slavery.”
“We marched together to reject that tyranny and hatred. We marched together instead to embrace and welcome democracy, freedom and equality. We will honor Black Americans who were once enslaved but broke free to fight for their liberty and emancipation.”
