(VIDEO) What Would You Do If You Went Home and Home Wasn’t There?

Texas-Demolition

Lindsay Diaz’s duplex had been damaged in a tornado back in December.  She decided to repair her half, so that she would once again have a home to go to.  After receiving a frantic message from one of her neighbors, she rushed to her home to find that her home was no longer there.  The  Rowlett, Texas duplex had been demolished by the  Billy L. Nabors Demolition company.  The demolition company was supposed to tear down  7601 and 7603 Cousteau Drive.  Instead, they demolished the duplex at  7601 and 7603 Calypso Drive .

The crew claims they confirmed the address by using Google Maps to locate the correct house and the arrows pointed directly at Diaz’s duplex.  There is currently no confirmation on that.  The demolition company was asked about the mistake and they added insult to injury by saying that destroying the house is no big deal.  To Diaz and  Rowlett city manager Brian Funderburk, this is a very big deal.

Funderburk said:

“I think this is a huge deal.  The homeowners were in the process of trying to figure out what it was going to take to repair their home and now they’re looking at rebuilding it instead. I think this is a very big deal.”

Diaz is now in a position, where she is further away from moving into her home than she was before:

“I feel farther away from moving into a home today than I did after the tornado hit.  We would have been in the house by the end of the summer. And then all of the sudden it’s like the tornado came through again, took everything,”

She can’t even file a claim against  Billy L. Nabors Demolition company until she hears from her insurance company and because of the flippant remark from the demolition company, they are not ready to make good on the damages.
