Police have released footage of a group of teens in Washington DC who assaulted a Marine veteran outside of a McDonald’s after asking him if he thought “black lives matter.”
Christopher Marquez, a 30-year-old veteran of the Marine Corps, reported that he was harassed by the teens while eating at the restaurant. According to The Washington Post, Marquez, who is a student at Washington’s American University, tried to ignore the teens, but to no avail.
“They saw me and crowded around my table, and they started asking me if I believed black lives matter,” Marquez said. “I was ignoring them, then they started calling me racist.”
After eating, one of the suspects followed Marquez out of the restaurant and struck him on the back of the head. Marquez was knocked unconscious. When he later awoke, he found his pants were ripped and his wallet was missing, presumably stolen by the teens. In the wallet was $400, three credit cards and a VA card.

Marquez was able to catch a cab back to his apartment building where he was transported to George Washington University Medical Center and treated for head trauma. Ironically, in spite of the “racist” tag, Marquez had unsuccessfully run for Congress in California as a Democrat in 2014.
