This may be the most revolting thing you’ll hear in 2015. What possesses people (KIDS) to do these things? This 16 year old is being charged as an adult in the sexual assault of … OMG … a baby!
Courier Press: A 16-year-old Southern Illinois teen will be tried as an adult after being accused of sexually assaulting a 10-month-old girl at a day care center operated by his mother.
Justin Atteberry, of Salem, Illinois, has been jailed on a class-X felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault. The formal charges were filed Wednesday in Marion County Circuit Court in Salem.
According to the Marion County State’s Attorney Matt Wilzbach, the mother of the infant suspected her daughter had been assaulted and took the child to the Salem Township Hospital. The child was later transferred to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis for additional diagnosis and treatment. The child was treated and is now back home with family members, police said.
Officials with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services joined the investigation and closed the day care center where the assault allegedly occurred, pending further investigation.
Atteberry is being held in the Marion County jail at Salem under $250,000 bond. A local judge has ordered Atteberry held in the county jail, but he will not be housed with any adult inmates.
A January 5, 2016 preliminary hearing has been set in Marion County Circuit Court in Salem.
