Why Now? Georgetown, Jesuits, Slavery and Free Tuition

A nice little Public Relations move on the part of Jesuits of Georgetown University, don’t you think? Or is it that the hierarchy is so burdened by “White Guilt” that they can buy off the shame that has already been paid for with blood and financial assistance since 1865.  I can not believe we still live in a society guilt stricken by race. I thought is was to be over by now since Obama was elected and appointed a minority figure to a seat of power from the DOJ down to circuit court .

According to The Hill:

Georgetown University will make an effort to atone for its slave-owning history by providing preferential status to descendants of the slaves it sold, The New York Times reported.Alongside the change in the admission process, school President John J. DeGioia plans to rename two buildings, create an institute that will focus on studying slavery, build a memorial in honor of slaves who helped Georgetown, and issue a formal apology on behalf of the institution.

Since all these appointments nothing has gotten any better, in fact, it has only worse. If anybody thought people were going to do the right thing in these positions they were completely wrong.

There has been more corruption than ever before, with the mentality of  “It’s payback time”.  I am not complaining about the color of anyone’s skin, but I’m a firm believer if a person enters public service it is for the good of all, not just a few, and sadly that’s what is happening.

No wonder the nation is in such debt, but at least the board can sleep better at night.

What do you think?
