Wikileaks: Qatar Gave A Million Dollars To Bill Clinton For His Birthday

The Clinton Foundation has confirmed it accepted a $1 million gift from Qatar while Hillary Clinton was U.S. secretary of state without informing the State Department, even though she had promised to let the agency review new or significantly increased support from foreign governments. New emails released by WikiLeaks in connection with its dump of John Podesta’s email server indicate that Qatar, an Islamist state in the Persian gulf, gave former President Bill Clinton a check for $1 million for his birthday.

According to Mobile.Reuters:

The State Department has said it has no record of the foundation submitting the Qatar gift for review, and that it was incumbent on the foundation to notify the department about donations that needed attention. A department spokeswoman did not respond to additional questions about the donation.

Clinton Foundation official, Brian Cookstra last month declined to confirm the Qatar donation. Cookstra also declined to say whether Qatari officials received their requested meeting with Bill Clinton. The email indicates foundation officials also met with representatives from Brazil, Peru, Malawi and Rwanda to discuss donations and philanthropic strategies for the Foundation. “[Qatar] Would like to see WJC ‘for five minutes’ in NYC, to present $1 million check that Qatar promised for WJC’s birthday in 2011,” Ami Desai, director of foreign policy for the Clinton Foundation, wrote in 2012. One can only wonder how many millions have passed through channels such as this and at what cost? People don’t just give money away without wanting something in return. One can only wonder what? What do you think?
