U.S. Representative Danny Davis lost his grandson last night after he was apparently shot over a pair of sneakers. This happened in the Englewood neighborhood, on Chicago’s South Side.
The boy, 14, was chilling in his house on the 5600 block of South Princeton Avenue, when a crew of guys forced their way inside, police said.
During a dispute that followed, possibly over gym shoes, one of the males pulled out a gun and shot the teen in the head, police said.
Family identified the kid as Jovan Wilson. He was a sophmore at Perspectives Charter School.
Davis made the following statement, “I do know that I grieve for my family,” he said. “I grieve for the young man who pulled the trigger, I grieve for his family, his parents, his friends, some of whom will never see him again.”
The grieving grandfather also wondered where the gun came from and how the shooter was able to obtain it. He said better supervision, education and parenting might have prevented his grandson’s murder.
Area South detectives were investigating Friday night.
So far this year there have been 485 murders committed in Chicago with no suspects charged. 116 where they have charged the suspect. Nine in self-defense and six by the police.
When will the violence end? Never in my opinion. What do you think?
