77 Year Old Granny Foils Three Thugs…They Never Saw it Coming

Two eighteen year old thugs and a nineteen year old thug thought they had found an easy mark in 77 year old grandmother, Winifred Peel.  They planned to wait until she entered her pin, at which time they planned to knock her in the head and then withdraw the maximum they could.  But as the famous poet, Robert Burns once said in a poem titled  To a Mouse:

The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft a-gley.  (Burns wrote in Gaelic.  Translated it became The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray)

The same goes for thugs.  They weren’t prepared for  Peel’s reaction.  She grabbed one of the thugs and slammed his head hard against the ATM three times.

From The Conservative Tribune:

Piper Dumitru, Florin Geblescu, and Felix Stoica set themselves up for prison with their choice of victim.

Prosecutor William Beardmore said, “The complainant (Peel) became aware of somebody standing to her right. He pushed against her, causing her to rock to one side, and she recognized him as a male she had seen exiting Barclays Bank earlier.”

“He said, ‘It’s not working,’” Beardmore continued. “She then became aware of a second male she also recognized from having left Barclays Bank.”

Then the robbers tried to make good on their attack.

“He leaned over her and pressed the button to withdraw (about $263), and at that point she realized she was being robbed,” Beardmore explained. “She took hold of the second male by the collar and banged his head against the cash machine three times to try and stop him.”

Although the three thugs fled the scene, police caught them.

Judge Norman Wright told the defendants that he considered their crime to be especially heinous because of the woman’s age.  He handed out sentences accordingly.  Stoica received  two years in prison because he had prior convictions.  Glebescu received 18 months, and Dumitru got eight months.
