As The Donald has yet to announce a second in command, the rumors fly around various subjects. Condi has been floated as a positive possibility but if any remember her time with Bush II, while she was a superb Secretary of state, she was also a moderate. In this climate of “burn down the establishment” that won’t play well and I would hope that The Donald moves to the right when he chooses a V.P. Here’s what Condi says about the job.
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has let it be known she is not in serving as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s running mate, The Hill reported.
“Dr. Rice has repeatedly said in past cycles as well as this one, she’s not interested in being Vice President,” said her chief of staff, Georgia Godfrey, in a statement. “She’s happy at Stanford and plans to stay.” Rice returned to Stanford University after George W. Bush left office in 2009.
Rice was among the names that tumbled forth when the website Politico convened GOP members of its Politico Caucus to discuss Trump’s possible pick for vice president.
The collection of activists, strategists and operatives in 10 states put Rice fourth, with 8 percent support, behind former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, 13 percent; Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., 9 percent; and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 8 percent. Next were Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, 7 percent; and Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., 7 percent. Other names received less than 5 percent of the vote.
