The Islamic State (aka ISIS/ISIL) has released another of their notorious execution videos and it is one of the most gruesome to date. The video, published on pro Islamic State social media shows the execution of five men accused of being “New Syrian Army” spies. The executioners also issued stern warnings for the enemies of ISIS.
All of the executioners covered their faces except for one, who did all of the talking in the video:
The executioners staged their victims and threw them to the ground before beheading them and placing their heads on metal stakes and leaving their bodies in the desert.
The video has the normal fairly high production values of ISIS propaganda videos including using moving, stabilized cameras and multiple camera angles. It appears one of the angles might have been from an aerial photography drone.
The practice, of course, brings up images of one of history’s most notorious war lords, aka Voivode of Wallachia or Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration and namesake for Bram Stoker’s famous Count Dracula.
Vlad would impale his enemy’s heads and bodies on stakes as a warning to others. It just shows the types of historical figures the terror group hopes to emulate. Perhaps the group thinks the impaling their enemies will be taken as a warning as well.
This is just the latest execution video to be released by ISIS which has come up with a multitude of disturbing ways to kill their opposition in propaganda films.
