NBC News has fallen to number for the first time in many years. ABC now has the number one rating for the first time in 17 years after Holt’s embarrassing showing at the first debate. That’s bad news for NBC. Their advertising prices depend on that number one slot. ABC’s ‘World News Tonight’ has won every single day since the debate by margins that are growing every day. Ironically, Holt played the part of moderator exactly the way NBC wanted but that won’t save him if he fails to retake the top spot.
For the 2nd week in a row, World News Tonight” saw gains over the previous week (8.177 million and 1.733 million, respectively, for w/o 9/19/16) in Total Viewers (+1%) and Adults 25-54 (+2%), turning in its best numbers in both measures since March – since weeks of 3/7/16 and 3/28/16, respectively.
Two weeks into the season, “World News Tonight” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers for the first time in 9 years – since the 2007-08 season. “World News Tonight” leads “Nightly News” by 278,000(8.256 million vs. 7.978 million) for its largest season advantage over the NBC program at this point of the season in 17 years – since the 1999-2000 season.
For the week, “World News Tonight” defeated the “CBS Evening News” by 1.727 million Total Viewers, by 270,000 Adults 25-54 and by 242,000 Adults 18-49.
