Public University Encourages Protests

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) recently issued an apology when one of their official Facebook pages was discovered making partisan political posts against The Don in favor of Killary.

After Trump won the election, The UNH’s Women’s Studies Program has been making posts on their Facebook page to try to get students to participate in a public protest against him.

The program was promoting an “Our Power Walk Out and March.” This event was being organized by the UNH College Democrats Nov. 14. The whole reason for walk-out was in protest against Trump and his upcoming presidency.

One of the actual posts

“WS wants to make sure you know about this march that is happening tomorrow,” the post reads. “We have students who are interested in other forms of protest/activism. If you are interested in planning or participating something, lets [sic] get you connected!”

Here is what the school officials had to say in response to this.

“UNH is troubled by the partisan nature of many social media posts by the women’s studies department,” spokeswoman Erika Mantz told the Union Leader. “UNH encourages its students, faculty and staff to be engaged citizens but as a university we do not advocate for particular candidates or political parties. Those posts will be taken down.”

New Hampshire state law explicitly bars the recipients of state funding from using that money to engage in partisan political advocacy.

I wonder if this state law wasn’t in effect, would the school would have still apologized?
