Most people see the function keys located at the top of their keyboards and they are as mysterious to them as quantum physics, but in reality they are very simple once you learn what they do and how they can save you a lot of time. You will find a chart in this story and I suggest you print it out and tape it to the wall behind your computer until you have them mastered.
F1- Opens the Help screen for almost anything.
F2- Allows you to rename a file or a folder
F3- Opens search feature for an application that is open at the moment
F4- Alt + F4- Closes an active window
F5- Allows you to refresh or reload the page or document window
F6- Moves the cursor to the address bar in most operating systems
F7- Used to spell check or grammar check in Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Outlook
F8- Used to access the boot menu in Windows when shutting off the computer
F9- Refreshes a document in Microsoft Word and sends and receives emails in Microsoft Outlook
F10- Activates menu bar of an open application. Shift + F10 is the same as right clicking
F11- Enters and exits full screen mode
F12- Opens the save as dialog box in Microsoft Word
