A four year old girl was riding in a van when the back suddenly opened and she feel out of the van and onto the pavement. A driver in a vehicle behind the van, saw the girl fall out and blocked traffic from hitting her.
The warning is that this is very disturbing video, but the good news is that the little girl is fine and recovering thanks to the quick thinking of a bystander.
It was caught on the dash cam on the vehicle of Ryan Ciampoli, who was driving behind the church bus in Harrison, Arkansas. Ciampoli is a volunteer firefighter and trained emergency medical technician, and he was in the right place at the right time.
Protocol would dictate not to move the victim in case of back or neck injuries, but that wasn’t possible.
“Obviously you want to leave her laying there, if she’s not in danger, but we’re in the middle of a state highway,” he said. “So I couldn’t leave her just laying there.”
It is unclear if she opened the door or if it wasn’t locked. The girl’s mother told the media she doesn’t blame the bus driver, but a pastor at the church using the bus said they won’t use that bus again.
That little girl was lucky. It could have been much worse than it was, although a broken jaw is no laughing matter. It is also fortunate that a man was following behind that knew exactly what to do. You can’t block the doors or put locks on them, but they need to be secured better than the way they come from the factory if the van is going to handle small curious children.
