In a lot of ways, Vanna White is sort of America’s sweetheart. Every night she comes into our homes and struts across our television screens turning over letters on a big board as we play along trying to guess a word or phrase before the contestants. But while this life has been good to Vanna, she admits that as she turns 60, she does have a couple of regrets. The biggest one according to her is not her job, she still love that even after 30 years, it is her decision to do some lingerie shots for a photographer.
She explains that the pictures were not done as a Playboy magazine photo shoot. In fact they were done almost 5 years before she secured her job on Wheel of Fortune. She recently explained how her pictures showed up in Playboy to an entertainment reporter for Fox News: “Here’s the thing. When I first moved to Hollywood, I was too embarrassed to ask my dad for rent money. I was young and I wanted to do it on my own. So, I did these lingerie shots and from the moment I said I would, I thought, “I shouldn’t be doing this, but I’m not going to ask my dad for money, so I’m just going to do it!” Once I got “Wheel of Fortune” and some fame, Hugh Hefner then bought those pictures. He’s the one who put me on the cover of the magazine. I didn’t do it for Playboy.
Vanna said she was very upset about Hefner purchasing the photos, “I did not want them on there, but it happened. I was very thankful that I had such support behind me. I remember going on “Johnny Carson” and saying, “I’m so sorry, this is what happened.” And she says that is a lesson that applies today: “Never do anything that you don’t want to do. Listen to your instincts and follow it.”
She said she still remembers the words she used almost 30 years later: “I made a mistake, I’m sorry and I just hope I don’t lose my job over it. Fortunately, I didn’t. I could have, you know? It was a great lesson to learn, but what can I say? I did something I shouldn’t have done.”
Vanna says when she first came to Hollywood, she used to walk down the ‘Walk of Fame” telling herself that someday she would have her own star there. Then one day it happened and she thought: “I finally made it, I got my star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I’m As for retiring, Vanna says that she is sure she will one day, but she is still enjoying her job so much she just doesn’t want to retire and hopes to continue doing it for as long as she can.
