Betsey Woodruff wrote a column in the Daily Beast alleging that Beck’s defamation suit will hurt Ted Cruz in his quest to steal the election win the republican nomination for president. Beck has campaigned on the road for Ted Cruz and in his studio and on his radio show, he has been willing to stretch the truth in order to help Cruz win. Beck spent several days trying to convince America that in 2008, Trump voted for Obama despite his campaign contributions and participating in rallies and fundraisers for John McCain.
Last week, I heard Beck tell an outright lie when he said that Trump told People Magazine that if he ever ran for president, he’d run as a republican because their voters are stupid. The only problem is that Trump never said that. That was a false story planted by a troll, possibly one working for Beck in October of 2015. It was debunked shortly thereafter, when news organizations and People Magazine itself did an archive search. People found that they didn’t even do an interview with Trump that Year. Still, beck continued to use the lie.
While on the road with the Cruz campaign, Cruz gushed over Beck and said:
“What an extraordinary, visionary, passionate thinker.”
Well, that extraordinary, visionary, passionate thinker will be in court this summer over his defamation of Saudi national Abdulrahman Alharbi. Alharbi was wounded in the Boston Marathon Bombing and Beck quickly accused him of not being a victim but the money man behind the bombing. Both police and national security officials checked Alharbi out and found that he was not a terrorist but a student. That didn’t stop beck. He doubled and tripled down on his accusation throughout the following days and weeks. He urged his viewers to notify their congressional representatives and demand they investigate Alharbi. And that is why he is being sued and will in all likelihood pay through the nose to Alharbi.
It is Woodruff’s contention that Cruz’s embrace of Beck will hurt him because as he hammers away at Trump as being a racist, he himself is embracing someone who accused a college student, who was injured of being a terrorist, simply because he was Saudi Arabian. I’m not so sure. I have seen and talked to a lot of Cruz supporters and they are not that quick on the uptake.
