CoinStar Crackhead Gets Caught

Torrington police said last week that a man stole an $8,000 coin collection from his father and ran it through a Coinstar machine at a local supermarket so that he could get money to buy crack.

Leonard Rinaldi

The coins were reported stolen on October 11. Cops said Rinaldi confessed that he stole the coins, and brought them to a CoinStar machine at a Stop and Shop and received almost $60 dollars for them.

He then told police he used the money to buy crack cocaine. Police said he has a lengthy criminal record. He was living at home with his father at the time of the theft.

The authorities reported that they had video of Rinaldi at the CoinStar machine. Many of the coins didn’t get rejected by CoinStar because of their silver content and have been recovered.

They don’t know where the  rejected coins ended up.

$8,000 for a 60 piece? Makes sense to me. Crack is wack.
