U2’s Bono has long gone back and forth between prescient rock icon and representative of rock’s worst socio-political excesses. He managed to represent the latter quite well when he was rescued from the carnage in Nice last week and still decided to push a liberal agenda.
Bono, 56, (passport name: Paul David Hewson) was celebrating Bastille Day in France on the terrace of La Petite Maison, a restaurant slightly more expensive than Romano’s Macaroni Grill, when the attack occurred.
Hewson/Bono/whatever was safely evacuated by French authorities, according to the U.K. Metro. However, at least 84 people were not safely evacuated, dying at the hands of terrorist Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel when he ran the truck he had commandeered through the crowd.
Needless to say, Bono and his U2 bandmates were very sensitive about the incident when they posted about it on social media and … oh wait, no, they weren’t and pretty much trivialized everyone who died with “tolerant” palaver.

That, for those of you who haven’t followed the boys from Belfast over the years, is The Edge, U2’s guitar player whose real name is David Howell Evans. That also appears to be his real racial hair, the most ridiculous goatee in rock since Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode decided to grow one during his heroin addiction period to prove to the international music press that he was “bad.”
