Every morning, Imgur user IoanaHall gives his young daughter the same advice:
- Work Hard.
- Smile.
- Stay Weird.
- Be Nice.
- Make it a good day.
- And don’t forget… You’re awesome!
Wanting to ensure that she has “an amazing childhood” while helping her prepare to be “successful in the real world,” he offers her these words as he drops her off at school.
He writes on Imgur that his goal is to provide his daughter life lessons in a way which her eight-year-old self can understand. But he didn’t quite realize the impact he was having until his wife found a note in their daughter’s backpack.
The dad admits that at first he was confused. Then he saw what the note said.
His daughter had written down the advice he throws at her every morning.
Thanks to Dad she has learned that being nice means treating everyone with respect, and that she can improve someone’s mood just by smiling. Dad has taught her the importance of being confident and being herself, because why would you want to be anyone else? And Dad’s lessons point to working hard— it’s the only way she’ll get what she wants.
“Even though she’s only eight, we’ve talked about each of these at length so she knows exactly what I’m talking about,” he says.
IoanaHall says that he isn’t sure whether his approach is working, but he knows that if “she can absorb even a few of these then she’ll be heading in the right direction.” Agreed.
