Two days ago, Jay Maynor received a 40 year sentence for shooting and killing the man who raped his daughter back in 2014. The reason he plead guilty was so that his daughter wouldn’t have to go over the details in court.
Maynor, 43 from Alabama, shot and killed Raymond Earl Brooks at his home after shooting at a man in a convenience store. Brooks had been abusing the daughter since she was four years old. He was the adoptive grandfather.
Raymond plead guilty to the molestation charges in 2002. He was sentenced to five years in prison. As usual though, he only had to do 27 months, then he got placed on probation.
On June 8, 2014, Maynor reportedly got into a heated discussion with his daughter Julia. He then drove over to confront her abuser. On the way there, Maynor stopped at a convenience store and shot at different guy who he also thought sexually assaulted his little girl, but he missed.
As a result, Maynor was sentenced to 40 years for the murder of Brooks, and 20 years for the attempted murder. Both sentences will be served concurrently, according to the documents.
The daughter Julia stated, “My father was protecting me, like a father should do,” Julia recently told AL.com. “He is an amazing father — actually the best.”
I can’t believe that the court hit this guy so hard with a 40 year sentence. I personally know people who only did three years after committing Manslaughter 1.
They should have cut the guy a check for cleaning up the scum off the streets in my opinion. I would do the same to anyone that hurt someone in my family in a heartbeat. Wouldn’t you?
