No comment made by Former Democratic Representative Chaka Fattah, of Pennsylvania, after leaving court.
Monday he was found guilty on 23 charges of corruption in a campaign loan case concerning $1 million dollars.
Fattah was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a racketeering case, which included money laundering and fraud after a jury found him guilty.
The 60 year old Fattah was elected in 1994 to represent a district that covered a large portion of Philadelphia. He was a former member of the House Committee on Appropriations and was routing federal grants and nonprofit funding to pay the debt he built up when didn’t succeed in his 2007 mayoral bid.
Politico reports that Chaka Fattah Jr., Chaka’s son, is currently serving a five-year sentence for bank and tax fraud charges. It seems to me that crime runs in the family.
State Rep. Dwight Evans beat Fattah, and consequently got his seat, in his primary race in a strong blue district, earlier this year.
Philly.com reports that that he was found guilty of accepting bribes from former Deputy Mayor Herbert Vederman, who he helped obtain the U.S. trade representative post.
