It’s not every day you stumble upon a priceless treasure dating back to World War II, but that is exactly what happened when one lucky man went rummaging through his great-grandfather’s attic. The man opened the chest and was blown away with what he saw. He immediately knew he had something special and decided to share it with social media.
According to AWM:
One of the first things he found when he opened the trunk, was his great-grandfather’s shot gun shell kit. He was a man who supported the second amendment and knew how to make his own ammunition. When you’re facing down against an enemy, knowing how to make your own shells is a valuable skill.
Besides his fire-arm equipment, this World War II veteran was an avid coin collector. Many of the coins the young man found in the trunk were from the 1800s. The penny was thought to be from 1828 which is extremely old and valuable. That’s older than the Civil War.
Speaking of the Civil War, this veteran had collected some buttons that date back to the epic battle between the Yankees and the Rebels. GAR stands for the Grand Army of the Republic. That means this World War II veteran supported the Union. GAR was a fraternity that supported the veterans who fought for the union.
The veteran also had a World War II Red Cross bond. It thanks the veteran for his service. Plus, the old veteran had a sugar purchase certificate back in the days when food was rationed for the war effort. That’s such a different time than now when food is plentiful and obesity is a problem in America.
Have you ever found a great treasure just lying around your families old attics and basements? Give it a shot, you never know what history you could uncover.
