With Micah Johnson’s cop-killing rampage in Dallas grabbing all of the headlines it’s important to realize that a similar anti-white shooting spree took place in Tennessee. A black man opened fire on random white people, killing one and injuring three more. Like the Dallas police killer, the Tennessee shooter was motivated by recent police-involved shootings of black men and a general hatred for white people.
The LA Times reports that 37-year-old Lakeem Keon Scott set out to get some revenge on the white man on Thursday. Armed with what is being described as an assault rifle, a handgun, and a large cash of ammo, he began shooting at the Days Inn motel in Bristol, TN.
Front desk clerk Deborah Watts was hit first. She is hospitalized and expected to survive. Scott abandoned his plan to shoot up the motel and turned his weapon on the nearby highway. He randomly shot at cars, before hitting 44-year-old Jennifer Rooney, killing her. Rooney was the mother of two and was on the way to work when Scott killed her. Her car careened off the road and crashed through a fence.
Scott continued to fire at vehicles, injuring at least one more motorist. The police showed up and engaged Scott in a firefight. Officer Matthew Cousins of the Bristol PD was struck in the leg.
The officers eventually won the gun battle, hitting Scott several times. He survived and was taken into custody. He is in the hospital in stable condition.
And now here’s the motivation for this deadly shooting spree:
A man accused of shooting indiscriminately at passing cars and police on a Tennessee highway told investigators he was angry about police violence against African Americans, authorities said Friday.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that initial conversations with the suspect, 37-year-old Lakeem Keon Scott, revealed that he was troubled by incidents across the U.S.
Scott, who is black, was wounded in the shootout with police… All those shot were white, police confirmed.
