LONG ISLAND CITY, NY — A 47-year-old prison guard chased her ex-boyfriend down the street outside the prison where they both worked and opened fire on him Tuesday morning before killing herself, sources said.
The uniformed corrections officer was reportedly feuding with her ex before chasing him as he ran toward his car outside the Queensboro Correction at about 6:30 A.M.
Video footage, which was obtained by DNAinfo New York, shows the 44-year-old man running down the middle of the road away from his ex while she chases him.
The guard did not manage to hit her ex with any of the bullets, but Rafael Macias, 40, who was driving his friends near the scene of the shooting, said one of the officer’s bullets struck his passenger’s side door. “I saw a female Corrections officer shooting at a guy. I was making a left turn, and the bullet hit the passengers’ side door. I heard six shots in total,” Macias said, adding that “she was flying down the block.”
A passenger in the car told DNAinfo New York that the suspect was silent while shooting and “had a determined look on her face.”
The guard then reportedly turned the gun on herself, and was taken to a nearby hospital — where she was pronounced dead.
Prison officials said they were helping the NYPD with its investigation.
