Trump Eyes Sheriff David Clarke for the Department of Homeland Security

Sheriff David Clarke who was believed to be in line for a job within the Trump administration may finally be receiving a position within the DHS.  Officially, he would be assistant secretary position at the DHS Office of Partnership and Engagement.  Unfortunately the position does not require Senate approval.  I would have loved to see the buttercups on the democratic side of the aisle try to take on Sheriff Clarke.  I would have watched it even if it was on Pay Per View.  Still, it will be nice to know we have the sheriff watching our backs.

The sheriff also spoke at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last summer, when Trump secured the GOP nomination for president. During his speech, Clarke called the Black Lives Matter movement “anarchy” and declared, “Blue lives matter!” He also touched on the importance of applying the law “equally to both the wealthy and the impoverished.”

“These are truths that are self-evident to me, and which I practice, and they are the truths that Donald Trump understands and supports,” Clarke said in his speech. “Donald Trump is the steadfast leader our nation needs.”

Clarke has not publicly commented on his county’s handling of the situation, but he has accused the local media of failing to highlight Thomas’ ailing health or the fact that the inmate was accused of shooting a man outside his parents’ home before opening fire in a nearby casino.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a Republican, announced Thursday that he won’t remove Clarke over Thomas’ death, the Chicago Tribune reported.
