Two Teachers Arrested For Sex With A Student

Two more teachers have been accused of having sexual relationships with a high school student according to officials at Ocoee High School in Florida. The pair, Chad Michael Coy, 27, and Ryan Stewart Kirkpatrick, 22, were recently arrested after a months-long investigation according to police investigators.

Coy, whom the girl also described as her lacrosse coach, was arrested Wednesday night on charges of unlawful sexual activity with minors and sexual offenses against students by authority figures. Kirkpatrick was arrested Friday on similar charges. The alleged incidents took place in September and October, according to official documents from the case.

Back in November, local television station News 6, spoke with the father of the alleged 17-year-old victim when the teachers were initially placed on leave from the school. At that time, her father told the media outlet that his daughter admitted to having a sexual relationship with two teachers at her school. He said the first incident took place during a drill when the school was on lock-down, when one of the teachers and the girl were alone.

The father went on to say there were at least two other incidents following the initial one. Those allegedly took place when the girl stayed after school in a teacher’s classroom. The father said the teen was cooperating fully and had handed over her phone to police for review.

When the teachers were released from their duties, school officials sent a recorded phone message to parents letting them know the employees were no longer at the school. It simply stated: “As always, Ocoee High School puts the safety of your children first. Please know we are working with law enforcement to assist in any manner.”

The Principal said November 1st was the last day either man has worked at the school. Coy has hired a private attorney to represent him on the charges and he is currently being held without out bond following his first appearance in court. Meanwhile, his co-defendant, Kirkpatrick, has had his bond set at $50,000 for each felony charge.

Most of the community was shocked to learn of the arrests. “It’s just a shocker because you trust teachers with your kids,” parent Torri Benyard said. And a fellow student of the girl, Connor Haugen said he didn’t expect Kirkpatrick to be arrested. “He was always a really nice teacher,” Haugen said. “No one ever suspected him to do anything like that.”
