Virginia Police Officer Shot/Killed On Her First Shift

This story could not be more tragic or sad. A former marine, trained as a police officer loses her life, responding to a call, on her first shift.

A newly-sworn-in Virginia cop was fatally shot and two other officers were wounded while responding to a fatal domestic related incident, the Prince William County Police Department said late Saturday.

Officer Ashley Guindon died from injuries sustained in the shooting in Woodbridge, the police department said shortly after 10:30 p.m. 

Police Sgt. Jonathan Perok said Guindon had been sworn in on Friday and was working her first shift on Saturday when she was killed. In welcoming Guindon and another officer to the force Friday, the department tweeted their photo and said, “be safe!”

“This whole thing is just tragic,” Perok said. 

The suspect, identified as Ronald Hamilton was being held without bond on charges of capital murder of a police officer, assault with a fire arm and murder in the first degree, according to the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. He is expected to be arraigned Monday morning. 

The wife of the alleged shooter was killed in the domestic violence incident, according to NBC Washington.
