The former first lady’s office is urging caution when it comes to media reports.

Since her husband, the 45th president, began his political career, his third wife has kept a low profile, sparking speculation about her thoughts, relationships, and motivations. With Donald Trump now facing fraud charges, there’s even more curiosity about her perspective.

She is now working to address some of the rumors.

“News organizations have made assumptions about the former first lady’s personal, professional, and political views,” her office tweeted on Tuesday. “These articles often rely on unnamed sources. Be cautious when reading these stories unless she is directly cited as the source.”

This is notable because Melania Trump rarely engages with the press. Reporters are eager to know how she feels about her husband being the first president to face criminal charges. Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to all 34 charges, is still months away from trial, with allegations surrounding hush money payments to an adult film star continuing to dominate the headlines.

Speculation has swirled around Melania’s thoughts on her marriage being thrust into the public eye once again.

A source told PEOPLE that Melania will not be involved in her husband’s 2024 campaign, reportedly finding political events “uncomfortable.” The story paints a picture of a woman who has endured public pain but remains unsurprised, maintaining a life separate from her husband’s political ambitions.

As for their recent interactions, the couple dined together at Mar-a-Lago on the night Trump’s indictment was announced. Melania did not accompany him to New York for his arraignment or to his rally afterward but did join him for Easter brunch on April 9, where they received a standing ovation.

On that same day, she tweeted an Easter message alongside a photo of a rose.

Melania also retweeted her office’s warning about exercising caution when consuming news about her. While it’s unlikely we’ll hear much from her in the near future, the media will no doubt continue to speculate.
