Brooksville, Florida police responded to a call from the local Walmart Tuesday night in response to a call about a man with a weapon threatening customers. When they arrive, they found themselves confronting Shannon Lon Schenck who was found swinging two swords at several customers at the location on Broad Street. The stores manager had noticed the 44-year-old Schenck in the parking lot, brandishing swords at people as they were walking to and from their cars.
Police said when they arrived they found Schenck who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Schenck was still ready to go with his swords when officers arrived and was still threatening people in the parking lot. In fact, Police say he was in fighting stance when they arrived.
Police were able to take the man into custody without any undo violence and said Schenck allowed himself to be arrested with no incident. A subsequent search by police of his belongings found less than 20 grams of marijuana on Schenck, as well as a glass pipe with marijuana residue.
Several witnesses told officers Schenck had “assumed a fighting stance and unsheathed the swords in a threatening manner while approaching customers exiting their vehicles.”
A police spokesperson said that Schenck has a long arrested record, which includes drug possession and aggravated battery charges which is now going to be a little longer. Schenck was charged with 2-counts of aggravated assault, 3-counts of possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of marijuana/paraphernalia.
Schenck is currently being held at the Hernando County Detention Center awaiting a trial date.
