Shots are being reported fired near the Capitol Visitor Center. The White House and Congress is on lockdown. Visitors are told to leave the area. Capitol Police refuse all questions but say they will respond when they can and we should expect word shortly.
Man tried to go through metal detector and he pulled his gun when the alarm went off. One officer slightly wounded with second person wounded by flying debris. Suspect is in custody and Capitol Police will brief the press shortly.
Congress is in recess and all Reps and Sens are home.
Gunshots reported in the Capitol Visitors Center, we hear over the loudspeaker. Shelter in place, we’re told.
As of now, sources say the situation is contained to only the visitor center.
