A deceivingly simple picture of six girls sitting on a sofa is quickly going viral on Reddit, with many calling it an optical illusion.
The picture, first discovered by Reddit user jr0d7771 on Dec. 24, shows six friends sitting next to each other on a sofa, according to The Daily Mail. While it appears simple enough, something is missing, leading many completely baffled.
The original poster commented on the photo, prompting users to “find the middle girl’s legs.”
Many users answered the call, offering possible explanations.
“The second girl’s legs are behind the first girl’s legs,” one user wrote, per The Mail. “I think.”
Another user disagreed, commenting “I actually think the first girl has get legs draped OVER the second girls legs.”
A third user provided an in-depth explanation, with a visual reference, saying that the legs of the two girls on the far left blend together. Labeling the girls from left to right 1, 2, 3, and 4, he starts by saying that the first girl’s legs are crossed.
“Number 1 has her legs crossed, no tear in the knee. Number 2 has only one leg visible, the tear is in her knee,” the user explained in the comment section. “Those legs are blending together. (Follow that tear down, there’s a split where there’s a sock on the right and not on the left. Number 2 has a tear in her knee and a visible white sock). Numbers 2 and 3 are leaning waaay over. It’s easier to visualize if you picture #3 with her hand on the seat behind #4’s back to hold herself up.”
However, there is no clear consensus on an explanation. The image has garnered hundreds of comments and thousands of shares in the two days since it’s been posted.
