Taylor Johnson, long considered one of the top ICE agents in the country with an impeccable record and perfect reviews was fired after she expressed concerns over the issuing of EB-5 visas to known security risks. She was fired after complaints from Harry Reid. Coincidentally (Just joking…not coincidentally) his son Rory Reid represents the casino that was at the heart of the EB-5 requests. Although the EB-5 visa applications had been turned down for national security reasons, they were approved by Alejandro Mayorkas.
Harry Reid is not the only the only politically connected person Mayorkas shilled for. Also benefiting from Mayorkas’ corruption is Terry McAuliffe, current democratic governor of Virginia, Tony Rodham, brother of Hillary Clinton and former governor of Pennsylvania and former head of the DNC, Ed Rendell. As a reward, Mayorkas became the number two person at the DHS. (Dept of Homeland Security) He could not have been confirmed had Reid not used the nuclear option that required a simple majority rather than the 60 usually needed. He was confirmed by a 54-41 vote.
What adds suspicion to the equation is that Mayorkas was under investigation for authorizing EB-5 visas for Reid, McAuliffe, Rodham and Rendell. His confirmation was pushed through before the Inspector General found that Mayorkas has acted improperly in issuing those visas. His appointment made him bulletproof.
Now, Reid is facing giving a deposition to the lawyer representing former ICE agent Johnson. As he explained, Reid’s fingerprints are all over the firing. It was complaints from his office that got her fired, despite her sterling record. Her boss even expressed surprise that his top investigator was being fired.
Johnson testified before congress on her investigation of the EB-5 program and her subsequent firing:
“Some of the violations investigated surrounding the project included bank and wire fraud, and I discovered ties to organized crime and high-ranking politicians and they received promotions that appeared to facilitate the program.”
“I found over 800 operational EB-5 regional centers throughout the U.S.” (Only 10,000 EB-5 visas are approved each year, which means the offices average just 12.5 applicants each. Do you find that as curious as I do?)
“I could not identify how USCIS was holding each regional center accountable or how they were tracked once they were inside the U.S.”
As a result of her firing, she almost lost custody of her daughter and the DHS told her she could not exercise her Second Amendment right to gun ownership.
This comes at a particularly bad time for Reid who is being investigated in Utah on bribery charges. He is set to retire at the end of his term.
Johnson was offered $100,000 to keep her mouth shut, which she refused.
