A professor at Kent State University in Ohio is under investigation by the FBI and has been for the last year and a half. He is believed to be a recruiter for ISIS. The university confirmed the investigation, saying they have been cooperating fully in the probe. The FBI has interviewed a large number of students and facility about his behavior. The professor, Julio Pino, insists he is innocent:
“I’ve never broken the law. I support no violence or violent organizations. One man or one woman’s interpretation of events can be very different from another’s. As they say, ‘haters gonna hate.’ Truth always prevails, and truth will prevail in this case.”
His denial would carry a lot more weight if he didn’t have so much history for detractors to draw from. For instance, during a speech being given by an Israeli diplomat, Pino stood up and yelled, “Death to Israel!!”
The following message appeared on a Facebook page allegedly belonging to Pino:
“Sheik Osama (May Allah be Pleased with Him) was the greatest, and deserves (sic) praise for kicking off this jihad,” one post from an account in Julio Cesar Pino’s name begins. The post, which has since been deleted, was preserved in a screenshot by The Clarion Project, a New York-based research institute that monitors international terrorism.
It continues: “However, the organization he left behind is not the same AQ he founded. The brave warriors of AQAP and the Nusraf Jabbat should join #IslamicState.”
In 2002, Pino wrote an article praising a young Palestinian girl turned suicide bomber. He called her a martyr, said her actions should be pronounced “justice” and spelled C-o-u-r-a-g-e.
In 2014, during attacks on Israel by Hamas and retaliatory action by Israel, Pino wrote that all academics who support Israel should be killed. Now, some of you might say he was trying to promote terrorism but as Obama would say, he was only trying to incite workplace violence.
