A kiss is often described as many things, but “deadly” isn’t usually one of them. However, that’s exactly how a kiss ended up for one Quebec woman.
Myriam Ducre-Lemay, 20, suffered from a severe peanut allergy, but her new boyfriend didn’t know. One night after eating a peanut butter sandwich, Ducre-Lemay’s boyfriend gave her a goodnight kiss. Moments later, she began to experience trouble breathing.
Unfortunately, Ducre-Lemay was not carrying an EpiPen, nor was she wearing a Medical Alert bracelet when her breathing difficulties began. She used her asthma inhaler, but it didn’t help.
That was when she asked her boyfriend if he had just eaten peanuts. When he told her yes, she told him to call an ambulance. Paramedics arrived eight minutes later, but the young girl suffered cardiopulmonary arrest in the ambulance.
Micheline Ducre, the girl’s mother, has come forward with her heartbreaking story in an attempt to warn others about the dangers of severe allergies.
Ducre said her daughter had told her just days before that she was in love.
“It’s the first time I saw my daughter with such bright eyes,” she said in an interview with Journal De Quebec. “Sadly, she did not have the time to tell him she had a peanut allergy.”
