More than 1,000 people have signed a petition to have the Cincinnati Bengals renamed to the Cincinnati Harambes, in honor of the gorilla that was killed at the Cincinnati Zoo back in May.

On May 28, 2016, a three-year-old boy climbed into the gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo. The situation resulted in a zoo worker shooting Harambe, a 17-year-old Western lowland gorilla, in an effort to save the young boy. Harambe attracted international attention.

The Cleveland Browns named their team after a former Coach who made a great impact on their city so why can’t the Bengals do it as well in honor of a hero who made an impact on their city too!

The petition was started on Saturday with a now-achieved goal of 1,000 signatures. Ortiz plans to deliver the petition to the city of Cincinnati and the Bengals’ organization.

I’m signing because, although I do not live in Cinncanati (sic), the entire party of support for Harambe has left an overwhelmingly inspirational message in my heart,”
