Riot and rebellion has been sweeping across the nation’s college campuses for nearly a decade under the Obama administration’s lax ‘safe place’ policies. This time these destructive college protesters and their campus officials may have to deal with President Trump and his threat to pull college funding as he suggested in a tweet after fiery violence engulfed the University of California, Berkeley on Wednesday. Should a law and order America demand any less?
Free speech has never truly been free at a majority of college and universities since the tumultuous anti-war days of the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Conservative students have been ridiculed by professors in classrooms as well as by liberals for expressing their views. Now the sons and daughters and in some cases grandchildren of those anarchists from fifty and forty years ago, are spawning a new generation of equally intolerant radicalized offspring
This time, the American public has elected a president who will not continue to witness nor permit the undoing of those basic law and order principles that govern a civilized society. President Trump was crystal clear in his Tweet when he said, “If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view – NO FEDERAL FUNDS?”
Conservative writer Milo Yiannopoulos who is affiliated with Breitbart had been invited to the Berkeley campus for a book tour event. The speech which was to focus on campus free speech turned into a highly-orchestrated display of liberal fascism that included fireworks being set off as well as windows being broken in campus buildings.
Violence has become the currency of liberal protest in America and this campus, no stranger to violent protest was prepared to attack and destroy the rights of those students and the public that had come to attend the event. Instead of showing tolerance these rioters tossed flares and smoke bombs. It escalated when a group of masked anarchists used a diesel generator to start a large fire outside of the very building Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak, reported the Daily Caller.
The warning from the president should be the last warning the university administration receives. They should enact a “no tolerance” policy that results in immediate expulsion from college and the city police should follow up with the swift arrest and criminal charges filed against all participants in the riotous actions.
The university school received $370 million in federal research funding during the 2015-2016 school year. The first tweet is a warning shot, and the university as well as all students at universities and colleges across the nation should be made aware of what is at stake. Law and order means just that.
