US Women Gymnists Not Only Win, They Dominate
In a sport where mere hundredths of a point can be the difference between silver and gold medals, the American team won the gold with a total score of 184.897, while Russia finished second with 176.688. That’s dominance. In the 2012 Olympics the women took the gold and won by 5 points. This time they won by 8. The team is nicknamed “The Fierce Five” and they truly deserve it.
The young women had an amazing start in the women’s team final for the Olympics on the vault, the uneven bars and the balance beam.
Simone Biles gave a stellar performance on the floor, scoring a 15.800, which was the best of the competition.
Laurie Hernandez scored a 15.233 on the beam, as Aly Raisman scored a 15.000 and Biles scored a 15.300.
Madison Kocian scored 15.933 on the uneven bars finishing off the rotation for Team USA. Following close behind was Gabby Douglas, who scored 15.766 on the uneven bars.
Next up will be the individual competition. It would not be surprising to see these five girls win all of the gold medals. USA! USA! USA1
